Overview of natural flake graphite

NEWS2

Flake graphite by high pressure metamorphism, generally bluish gray, weathered yellowish brown or grayish white, mostly produced in neiss, schist, crystalline limestone and skarn, symbionic minerals are more complex, the main component is flake crystalline crystalline carbon, accompanied by graphite in the ore for crystalline flake or leaf shape, black or steel gray, mainly occurring in feldspar, quartz or diopside, tremolite particles between. It has an obvious directional arrangement, consistent with the direction of the layer. Flake graphite is mostly natural exocrystalline graphite, a lamellar structure, its shape is like a fish scale, a hexagonal crystal system, the crystal state is better, the particle size diameter is 0.05 ~ 1.5μm, the thickness of the piece is 0.02 ~ 0.05mm, the largest flake can reach 4 ~ 5mm, the carbon content of graphite is generally about 2% ~ 5% or 10% ~ 25%.

Production area of flake graphite is mainly located in Asia, China and Sri Lanka, Europe's Ukraine, Mozambique, Madagascar, Tanzania and South America's Brazil and other countries, Mozambique, Tanzania, Madagascar and other countries rich (super) large flake graphite, with high industrial value.

The "MINERAL COMMODITY SUMMARIES 2021" released by the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows that by the end of 2020, the proven natural flake graphite reserves in the world are 230 million tons, of which China, Brazil, Madagascar and Mozambique account for more than 84%. At present, the main producers of natural flake graphite are China, Brazil and India. From 2011 to 2016, the global production of natural flake graphite remained stable at 1.1 to 1.2 million t/a. Affected by a series of factors, it plummeted to 897,000 tons in 2017; In 2018, it slowly rose to 930,000 t; In 2019, due to the increase in the supply of natural flake graphite in Mozambique, it returned to 1.1 million t. In 2020, China's flake graphite production will be 650,000 tons, accounting for about 59% of the world's total output, and is the world's largest producer; Mozambique flake graphite production of 120,000 t, accounting for 11% of the world's total output.
